Play it by ear
Play it by ear は、「臨機応変に対応する」「その場で、状況に応じて行う」という意味です。
Staff: How many pairs of beach sandals should I order for the shoe department?
Manager: Let’s order two dozen pairs. After that, we’ll play it by ear. If the sandals are popular with the customers and sell well, we’ll order more.

スタッフ：靴売り場の注文ですが、ビーチサンダルはいくつ注文したらいいですか。
マネージャー：２ダース、注文しよう。その後は、状況に応じて。サンダルがお客様に好評で、売れ行きが良かったら、もっと注文しよう。
